One day while going through my Instagram feed, I came across a post from Musely advertising “The Aging Repair Cream.

Any time I see something new advertised in the anti-aging category, I immediately pay attention to see if it’s going to be worth my time trying out.

Now what really caught my attention was the fact that it contains estriol, which is the weakest of 3 estrogen hormones.

So, I just had to try this cream. But was it worth it?

You’ll have to keep going to find that out!

Enjoy!

What are the benefits of estriol?estriol written on paper

I figured before diving right into my review, I would explain a little about estriol.

This way you can decide for yourself if it’s something you’d be interested in trying out.

As women age, especially during and after menopause, estrogen levels decline, which can lead to noticeable changes in the skin such as increased dryness, thinning, and the appearance of wrinkles.

Topical formulations sometimes utilize estriol, a weaker estrogen, to provide some of the beneficial effects of estrogen on the skin without the stronger systemic effects associated with other forms of estrogen.

How estriol works in skincare

Moisturization and Hydration: Estriol can enhance the skin’s ability to retain moisture, leading to improved hydration. This is crucial for maintaining the skin’s barrier function and for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that are more pronounced in dry skin.

Collagen Production: Estrogen plays a role in stimulating collagen production, a vital protein for skin strength and elasticity. By promoting collagen synthesis, estriol can help maintain skin firmness and reduce the sagging that often occurs with aging.

Skin Thickness: The thinning of skin is a common sign of aging, partly due to the decreased production of estrogen. Estriol can help in maintaining skin thickness and integrity, offering some resistance against the development of wrinkles and fine lines.

Pigmentation: Estriol may also have effects on skin pigmentation. Some studies suggest that estrogen can influence melanin production, potentially helping in reducing age spots and evening out skin tone, although this area requires more research for conclusive evidence.

Use in Prescription Skincare

Formulation: Estriol is often formulated in creams or gels for topical application. The concentration of estriol in these products is carefully controlled to maximize skin benefits while minimizing systemic absorption and potential side effects.

Prescription-based: Given its hormonal nature, estriol-containing skincare products are typically available by prescription only. This ensures that their use is monitored by a healthcare professional, taking into account an individual’s health history and specific skin concerns.

Safety and Efficacy: While estriol is considered to have a favorable safety profile due to its weaker estrogenic activity, it’s important for its use to be overseen by a healthcare provider. They can assess the appropriateness of estriol for a person’s skincare needs, especially considering any potential risks associated with hormonal therapy.

Now On To The Review!

I ordered my product on 3/1/24 and received it on 3/8/24 and started using it the very next day.

The directions say to use it at night, but I am still using my prescription tretinoin at night, so I used the Aging Repair Cream in the mornings.

I checked with the doctor to make sure it was safe to use both at different times and he said it was. I’ve no negative effects from using both.

Using one full pump of the cream, per the directions, I found it difficult to get the cream applied all over my face and neck.

However, I found out that others had the same problem and suggested mixing it with other creams or serums to make it spread further.

I started mixing mine with a couple of pumps of COSRX Snail Mucin 96% and it would spread perfectly. You can mix it with just about anything and it doesn’t decrease the efficacy of the estriol.

Also, even though the bottle is supposed to only last about 2 months, it has lasted me quite a bit longer!

Does it work?

YES. I have been using it for over 2 months now and I have noticed a significant improvement in my skin’s elasticity, the size of my pores, and even less depth in my “11” lines!

Even the lines around my lips that I developed, from where I used to smoke, have almost disappeared!

So, I would definitely recommend trying this cream!

However, keep reading before making a final decision.

Side Effects

For me, about a week after I started using the cream, I noticed being quite a bit more irritable, which lasted for about a week.

Even though I looked it up and the amount of estriol in the cream isn’t high enough to necessarily cause changes in libido, mine has increased some.

To me, that’s not a bad side effect!

Other than those 2, I haven’t any side effects. But there are others possible.

Those include:

  • Abnormal menstruation like spotting or irregular bleeding
  • Skin reactions such as redness, irritation, itching, or rash
  • Hormonal effects such as breast tenderness or enlargement, headaches, mood swings, and changes in libido
  • Systemic effects (if absorbed in significant amounts) would be nausea, bloating, and weight changes
