Do you even need a routine?
When you were in your teens and 20s, you might just wash your face, put some moisturizer on the dry spots, and get away with that. As you get older, though, that isn’t gonna cut it anymore, if you would like to keep your skin from dulling, drying out, and wrinkling way too soon!
Since you have found your way here, I am assuming you want to keep your youthful glow as long as possible. Just keep reading to find how!
Step one is cleansing
If you are anything like me, you hurry up and wash your face so you can get on with the rest of your routine. Well, I just recently found out washing your face is just as important as the serums, treatments, and moisturizers!
My dermatologist told me you should spend at least a minute massaging your cleanser into your face. This lets the cleanser do what it’s supposed to, letting the ingredients do their job!
So which cleanser is the best to use?
Well, of course, you are going to want one that doesn’t dry out your skin or strip essential moisture your skin needs. Now, because your cleanser isn’t going to stay on your skin for very long and just going to be washed away anyway, you have to have one packed with anti-aging additives.
What you do want, though, is one with gentle exfoliating. Cleansers such as a 10% Glycolic Acid Face Wash won’t over-dry and is sulfate and oil-free. If you would like to add some skin brightening to your cleanser, you may want to give RoC Multi Correxion Revive + Glow wash a try.
If you had rather focus on moisturizing cleansers, CereVe and Cetaphil are dermatologist recommended.
Toners for Anti-Aging
When choosing a toner for your skin, you need to be aware of your skin type. Lots of toners are alcohol-based and will be drying to the skin, so you’ll want to avoid those. However, there are anti-aging toners that have the benefits of shrinking the pores, tightening the skin, and moisturizing effects for soft, supple skin.
When it comes to using your toner, you’ll want to use your toner to dampen a cotton ball and blot it on your face. There are some spray toners you can use throughout the day, such as Dermalogica Antioxidant Hydramist Toner, that will firm and hydrate your skin.
A great toner for all skin types is Eve Hansen Vitamin C Toner, which will minimize your pores and is PH balancing.
Serums are Essential in Anti-Aging
In this step, you will be addressing any issues you may be having with your skin. Your serums are going to be fighting or preventing the key signs of aging.
Before you choose a serum, you need to take a long, hard look in the mirror, without makeup, to find any issues you may have or are concerned about trying to prevent.
If you are dealing with lines, wrinkles, and loss of elasticity, the best serum I have found to address all of these concerns is CiCi Care. This has been dubbed a “Time Capsule” and contains award-winning ingredients. Read How Does Gold and Sheep Placenta Keep Skin Youthful? for more info.
As I said before, you are going to want a serum to fit your particular needs and you may not want or need one that does it all. For instance, if you only have discoloration or dark spots, you will want niacinamide or vitamin C serum.
If you need to hydrate and plump your skin, then you’ll want a serum with hyaluronic acid and collagen. Nutrobelle Collagen Hyaluronic Acid serum will hydrate and plump and also smooth fine lines and wrinkles you may have!
Nighttime is when your skin does its repairing and also the best time to use retinol serums. There are three retinol serums I have found to be most recommended Cera Ve Retinol Serum, Paula’s Choice 0.3% Retinol + 2% Bakuchiol Treatment, and Loreal Paris Retinol Night Serum.
In the morning, after I have put my serums on my face, I use a plant-based oil to include a facial massage in my routine. This helps my skin absorb the products better and gives my face a vibrant glow.
Moisturizing and Sunscreen
When it comes to moisturizing your skin, Olay is coming out on top every time. Olay has apparently gone up against some of the most expensive brands and has been the better moisturizer every time.
The most popular by Olay is Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream, with 20 jars sold every minute. This cream contains skin-loving ingredients like hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and peptides. Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream hydrates your skin and in 28 the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles are reduced.
Olay offers other moisturizers that hydrate just as well, but concentrate on more specific signs of aging, Olay Regenerist Vitamin C +Pepetide 24 gives you brighter, less tired, glowing skin.
Olay Collagen Peptide 24 visibly firms the skin and unlike other collagen creams that will sit on top of the skin, these collagen peptides absorb into the skin.
The last one is Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 Night Moisturizer. While also moisturizing for 24 hours, your fine lines and wrinkles will be visibly reduced and your skin will be smoother, brighter, and firmer along with a reduction of dark spots and pores.
In the morning, after you have applied your moisturizer, you absolutely have to apply some SPF. Now, there are myths out there like if it’s cloudy or you’re not going outside, you don’t need it.
Those are just myths! You wear SPF during the day ALWAYS!!! Your SPF should be 30 or higher to actually protect you from the sun’s harmful rays. If you want your moisturizer and SPF 30 together, then I have some good news for you….
You can get Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream with SPF 30!
Night Routine
At night, you will be doing pretty much the same steps. Of course, at night you won’t be needing the SPF, but this is the time that you may want to incorporate a retinol or vitamin A derivative. Retinol works best at night because exposure to the sun can decrease its effectivness. It also helps increase cell turnover and boosts collagen production.

I don’t cleanse or tone LOL. I do put on daytime cream, night time cream, and I have serum. I see now that the others are important too. Can you do the cleansing while in the shower? I would think I could just make it part of my daily shower routine. The toner I have never done and so learned something there, thank you.
Yes, you can do your cleansing in the shower. Don’t forget that you need to cleanse and tone in the morning and at night. Thanks for commenting!
Thank you for the routine to ensure youthful hydrated and glowing skin. It is a routine not many people follow at a young age and by the time they do, the damage is already done. I have been following the same routine since my school years, because I believe to have beautiful skin that will last for a long time as possible. Cleansing is the one option I always used the most. I haven’t tried the products you mentioned in your post yet, but will consider to make a use of them.
Yes, it really is something to start following in our 20s. The products I have recommended are products that have great reviews and/or popularity.
