When you get older, usually your eyes are the first to show it. Botox may be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of solutions. However, if you’re not quite ready to go under the needle yet, there are other ways to prolong these pesky signs of aging.
Just keep reading to find a solution, whether it’s dark circles, wrinkles, puffiness, or fine lines!
Is your problem dark circles?
If you have dark circles under your eyes, then you need to figure out the cause before you can find the solution. So let’s look at each cause and solution.
- Hyperpigmentation- is one of the main reasons for the circles and is caused by the sun’s UV rays. You can prevent this by using SPF 30 daily regardless of the weather or staying inside. Sunglasses should also be worn when going outside.
- Lack of Sleep- The most obvious reason for dark circles. The solution is just as obvious; get enough sleep. Sleep at least 7-8 hours a night.
- Dehydration- The skin under the eyes is already thin, so being dehydrated will make this worse and cause discoloration. Always drink plenty of water.
- Seasonal Allergies- The release of histamines, due to an allergic reaction, will dilate the blood vessels making them look larger and darker. If you rub your eyes, that is only going to make it worse. Treat your allergies by consulting with your doctor to find out your triggers or buy an over-the-counter antihistamine.
- Blue Light- If you spend a lot of time in front of a computer, then it can cause eye strain and cause the blood vessels to dilate.
Sometimes some of these solutions just are not feasible, so you need to invest yourself by finding an eye cream that will minimize the effects of the problems. Even though ingredients such as ceramides, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, vitamin C, and green tea extract should already be in your skincare, finding an eye cream with these ingredients will diminish those dark circles.
Luckily, I have done some research for you and found a few of the best eye creams to address this issue.
1. Olay Ultimate Eye Cream and Olay Vitamin C Brightening Eye Cream
3. Neutragena Hydo Boost Eye Gel Cream
4. Murad Youth Renewal Eye Serum
Puffiness
Pretty much the causes for dark circles are the same for puffy eyes, along with overconsumption of salt. However, most of the time the puffiness can be instantly taken care of.
If you have some cryo globes, you can pop them in the freezer for a bit and then blot them under your eyes. You can do the same thing with a roller or if you don’t have either one of these, use some ice cubes.
You may also consider doing a facial massage with lymphatic drainage moves. Lightly run your fingers under your eyes to help that drainage also.
Wrinkles, Fine Lines, and Crow’s Feet
Unfortunately, the skin under your eyes tends to age first. The thinning skin is more prone to stretching and sagging. However, you don’t have to just grit your teeth and bare them every time you take a look in the mirror. There are ways you can improve the look of your eyes and look forward to the glances in the mirror again.
A few tips and tricks first…
1. Don’t apply eye shadow directly to the eyelid. The makeup will sink into creases and crevices making you look older. Instead, use an eye primer First, to fill in these creases.
2. Don’t over-tweeze, it will look like you are losing eyebrow hair. This is a definite sign of aging.
3. Use sweet potatoes instead of cucumbers. They have anti-inflammatory properties that reduce darkness and puffiness.
4. Increase your iron intake. You could have an iron deficiency causing discoloration under your eyes.
5. When putting on eyeliner, use a dark color above the top lash line and a different lighter color on the bottom for a more youthful look. You can also add a highlighter along the crease to make your look brighter.
6. Using a creamy concealer with yellow undertones will cover any darkness under your eyes.
Now, how to find an eye cream for the wrinkles, lines, and crow’s feet…
When it comes to choosing an eye cream, there are certain ingredients you’ll want to look for. These ingredients include hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, peptides, retinol, and, of course, sunscreen.
First, if you have excessive wrinkling around the eyes, you will most definitely want to use a retinol eye cream. Roc Retinol Correxion Line Smoothing Eye Cream has been recommended for improving not only wrinkles but also dark circles and puffiness. In a review, I found, that the lady had even used it on the deep wrinkles in between her brows and noticed a significant improvement.
Remember to use retinol products at night and definitely don’t forget SPF the next morning!
If you would like an eye cream that has concealer, SPF, and anti-aging ingredients, then you’ll want to check out Colorescience Total Eye 3-in-1 Renewal Therapy with SPF 35.
For an eye cream that is antioxidant-rich, and contains moisturizing ingredients and peptides, then Elta MD Renewal Eye Gel is the answer. This gel is oil-free and is going to help you eliminate those dark circles, puffiness, fine lines, and wrinkles.
To Stimulate elastin, which will bring the bounce back to your skin, you’ll want to try this antioxidant and vitamin-rich Aveeno Absolutely Ageless Eye Cream.
To give you another retinol choice, but with added hyaluronic acid for some extra moisture and plumping, there’s Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Eye Cream. This brand is the number one dermatologist recommended and will fade even the most stubborn crow’s feet, dark circles, and fine lines.
Use Eye Masks For Aging Eyes
Also called under-eye patches, work in the same way a face mask does. You’ll place them under your eyes and leave them there for a bit, while the ingredients soak into your skin.
If you Google best eye patches or eye masks, you are going to see a list of sites that have the best 9 to 25 eye patches. So I went through and narrowed the list down to 5.
1. Joanna Vargas Bright Eye Firming Mask– Has a hyaluronic acid and peptides gel to lift the skin under the eyes.
2. Klorane Smoothing and Soothing Eye Masks– These work for puffy eyes and dark circles.
3. Wander Beauty Baggage Claim- Allure Best of Beauty Winner, will plump the skin and minimize fine lines and wrinkles.
4. Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels- Extensive firming, toning, and de-puffing.
5. 24K Gold Under Eye Mask- Contains vitamin C and E and hyaluronic acid and has been reviewed as best on Amazon.
Summary
Whether your problem is dark circles, fine lines, puffiness, wrinkles, or all of these, there is a solution. You can pick a cream or a patch or, for an even better result, pair them together. Don’t forget retinol at night and SPF in the morning.

Thank you for your post. I have been trying to sleep more, since this year began. Too much work is making me age faster. And I have already seen some results. However, I think it’s time to also try some eye masks. I read the descriptions of all the options you presented and Klorane smoothing and soothing eye masks seem the best for me.
Yes, sleep is very important and I have to remind myself often as well. I am glad you were able to find something out of my recommendations.
Your remarks about eyes and age are very relevant. For me, I try not to be sleep deprived and to drink lots of water. I also tend to use eye creams now because I am 37. I want to appear younger and younger and your tips for eye care really talk to me. I don’t like Botox and I prefer more natural solutions to take care of my eyes.
I have found that most people don’t want injections, so I try to find the best products as alternatives.
