Taking care of my skin has always been more important to me than wearing makeup. That’s because I felt if I took good care of my skin, then I shouldn’t need much makeup, anyway. However, there’s nothing wrong with enhancing your natural beauty.

It now seems more of you want the “fresh”, “natural” or newly dubbed “skinimalism” look and brands have wised up to this by introducing skincare-makeup hybrids.

So along with looking naturally beautiful, you can also improve your skin with makeup products.

In this post, you will learn what hybrids are, why you should use them, and which brands are worth a try.

What are hybrids?3 hearts drawn with makeup

Simply put, it’s makeup with the added benefits of skincare. So, a 2 in 1 you might say, which includes serums, sunscreens, lips, cheeks, under eyes, and even lashes all with a little tint to have a natural looking dewy glow.

While these products are designed to be used as makeup, the skincare in them makes them more comfortable to wear than regular makeup.

Does that mean regular makeup is bad for your skin?

No, even though your full-coverage products often get blamed for clogging pores and causing breakouts. It simply comes down to having good habits with your makeup.

When you put it on, you must wash it off. Sleeping or sweating in your makeup is never a good idea. So, wash your face at night or if you’re headed to the gym, or somewhere else, you may do some heavy sweating.

You can also think of it this way, even though makeup isn’t bad for your skin, it isn’t really doing anything good for your skin either.

What are the benefits of skincare-infused makeup?

While they won’t replace a good skincare routine, they will complement it, among other benefits, such as:

Convenience- Skincare-infused makeup can simplify your beauty routine. You can address skin concerns while enhancing your natural beauty.

More comfort during hot weather- Sweating while wearing heavy makeup can cause congestion, leading to breakouts. Skincare-infused makeup is lighter, allowing the skin to breathe.

Improvement of skin- The most obvious benefit of having skincare ingredients added and helping to support the skin’s moisture barrier.

Added UV protection- Notice I said added. You should use a separate SPF, but makeup products with SPF can give you even more protection from premature aging.

Acne-prone skin- If your skin is prone to breakouts, heavy makeup can cause more congestion in your skin making breakouts worse. Specific skincare ingredients in your makeup can help treat as well as cover blemishes.

For dry skin- If your skin is overly dry, your makeup can look flaky or patchy. With ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, added to your makeup, you can have a smoother, more dewy look.

Rosacea and redness- Usually prone to skin sensitivities, color-correcting tints with skin-calming ingredients would naturally enhance the skin’s complexion while also reducing redness and irritation over time.

Signs of aging- To help fight signs of aging, antioxidants, hydration, peptides, and UV protection, of course. Antioxidants will help fend off the environmental stressors, while hydration and peptides will give you a dewy and plumped look. And extra protection from harmful UV rays is always a plus.

Glowing skin- Because they are nourishing and enhance your natural beauty instead of hiding it, they give your skin a healthy glow.

These products combine the best of both worlds and can save you time and money by reducing the number of products in your daily routine.

How to choose which ones are for you4 different race women's faces

The easiest way to choose these kinds of products is by first looking at the ingredients you are already using in your skincare routine.

Then ask yourself, “What are my skincare goals?”

If you have dry skin, you’ll want added hyaluronic acid for hydration. For oily or acne-prone skin, ingredients such as salicylic acid, colloidal clay, and charcoal will help control oil and unclog pores.

For aging concerns, peptides and collagen will help plump the skin. And everyone can benefit from some added SPF.

Tinted moisturizers- These are a lightweight, sheer coverage option that can help to even out skin tone and provide hydration. Many also contain SPF, for added protection from the sun’s harmful rays.

Concealers- These are great for covering up blemishes and dark circles. With added skincare ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and vitamin C, they help brighten your skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Foundations- This is a full coverage option to create a flawless base for makeup. With added ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and SPF, they will help improve the overall health and appearance of your skin.

Blush- To add a flush of color to your cheeks. Many now contain vitamin E and shea butter to help nourish and hydrate your skin.

Lip Balms- A great way to help keep your lips hydrated and protected from the elements. With ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and vitamin E, they will help improve the overall health of your lips.

Mascaras- The benefits include lengthening, curling, and defining your lashes while also nourishing them.

While these are just a few of the most popular skincare-infused makeups, you can also find eye shadows, brow tints and gels, highlighters, BB and CC creams, and even setting sprays with huge skincare benefits.

  1. I am not really experienced with makeup but my girlfriend is. even thought I don’t have much input in topics like this, it is a really good article.

I have a question, Do you think more make up companies and brand should make skincare infused makeup? It sounds like a genius idea.

    1. There are more brands hopping on the bandwagon because it’s a popular trend right now. I would say this is going to be the future of makeup.

  2. Hey thank you for this post!

I wasn’t aware until reading your post that there is such a thing as skincare infused makeup. I mean I did know there were products like light coverage foundations with added benefits however lipsticks as well as lashes having skin care benefits is definitely something new!

Thanks again and have a great day!
